چکیده

An important parameter for the distinction of X-ray flashes, X-ray rich bursts and Gamma-ray bursts in the rest frame is the distance to the explosion site. Here we report on the spectroscopic redshift determination of the host galaxy of XRF/GRB 030528 using the ESO VLT FORS2 instrument. From the strong oxygen and hydrogen emission lines the redshift was measured to be z=0.782±0.001. Obtaining the line luminosities and ratios we find that the host is consistent with being an actively star forming galaxy with sub-solar metallicity. With a stellar mass of ∼10 M⊙ the host is placed among the most massive GRB host galaxies at a similar redshift. Estimating the redshifted properties of the prompt emission, we find that XRF/GRB 030528 would be classified as an X-ray rich bursts in the rest frame rather than an X-ray flash in the typically used observer frame.

Discovery of the Near-IR Afterglow and of the Host of GRB 030528

The rapid dissemination of an arcmin-sized HETE-2 localization of the long-duration X-ray flash GRB 030528 led to a ground-based multi-observatory follow-up campaign. We report the discovery of the near-IR afterglow, and also describe the detection of the underlying host galaxy in the optical and near-IR bands. The afterglow is classified as “optically dark” as it was not detected in the optica...

Spitzer Observations of Gamma-ray Burst Host Galaxies: a Unique Window into High-redshift Chemical Evolution and Star Formation

We present deep 3.6 m observations of three z 5 GRB host galaxies with the Spitzer Space Telescope. The host of GRB 060510B, at z 1⁄4 4:942, is detected with a flux density of 0:23 0:04 Jy, corresponding to a rest-frame V -band luminosity of 1:3 ; 10 L , or 0.15 L ;V ; z1⁄43.We do not detect the hosts of GRBs 060223A and 060522 and constrain their rest-frame V -band luminosity to<0.1 L ;V ; z1⁄...

The Host Galaxy of Grb 970508

We present late-time imaging and spectroscopic observations of the optical transient (OT) of gammaray burst (GRB) 970508. Imaging observations roughly 200 and 300 days after the burst provide unambiguous evidence for the flattening of the light-curve. The spectroscopic observations reveal two persistent features which we identify with [O II] 3727 Å and [Ne III] 3869 Å at a redshift of z = 0.835...

The host galaxy of GRB 031203 : a new spectroscopic study

Aims. The host galaxy of the long-duration gamma-ray burst (GRB) 031203 (HG 031203) offers a precious opportunity to study in detail the environment of a nearby GRB. The aim is to better characterize this galaxy and analyse the possible evolution with time of the spectroscopic quantities we derive. Methods. We analyse HG 031203 using a set of optical spectra acquired with the ESO-VLT and Keck t...

Ism Studies of Grb 030329 with High Resolution Spectroscopy ∗

We present a series of early UVES/VLT high resolution spectra of the afterglow of GRB 030329 at redshift z = 0.16867 ± 0.00001. In contrast to other spectra from this burst, both emission and absorption lines were detected. None of them showed any temporal evolution. From the emission lines, we determine the properties of the host galaxy which has a star formation rate (SFR) of 0.198M⊙ yr and a...
